AMPTOOLS.EXE
To start AMPTOOLS, simply type the following at your DOS prompt and press
the ENTER key as shown below.
A>amptools <ENTER>
The first time the program is run, a Default Configuration screen appears
with four questions. These questions must be answered before the main menu
will appear.
The first question asks if a color or monochrome monitor will be used. Since
the default answer is yes, a "Y" will appear in the response field. If you
have a color monitor, simply press <ENTER> or click the left mouse button.
Otherwise, press "n".
The second question asks if you want to enter wire sizes in terms of wire
gauges (A.W.G.) or cross-sectional area (mm squared). Since the default is
gauges, a "1" will appear in the response field. If this is satisfactory,
simply press <ENTER> or click the left mouse button. Otherwise, press "2".
The third and fourth questions prompt for the minimum acceptable damping
factor at the load for speech and music systems. If you are unsure of your
preferences, press <ENTER> or click the left mouse button to accept the
recommended values (The default values provide the best compromise between
high performance and low cable and installation costs). Otherwise, enter
your preferred values based on previous experience.
Note: The damping factor at the load must always be less than the damping
factor rating of the power amplifier.
After these four questions are answered, your answers will be stored in a
configuration file called "amptools.cfg". As long as this file exists, the
setup screen will not appear. Should any changes be necessary, simply erase
the configuration file by typing the following at your DOS prompt:
del amptools.cfg <ENTER>
Then type:
amptools <ENTER>
Since the program will not find the configuration file, it will re-prompt you
for your input.
Once the main Amptools menu appears, you can move the highlighted cursor bar
with the cursor keys or the mouse until your selection is hightlighted. To
select, press <ENTER> or click the left mouse button. To escape back to the
previous menu, you may press <ESC> or click the right mouse button. It's as
simple as that.
The program is easy to learn and operate, and requires no formal manual. Just
answer the prompts. Hope you find many uses for AMPTOOLS.
